Jakarta, INTI - Google announced new features coming to its Maps app, adding several artificial intelligence (AI) features, supported by Google’s Gemini AI model, as reported by AP on Sunday, March 15, 2026.

Google is preparing two AI features in Google Maps, which is a mapping service that is used by more than two billion people globally.

New Suggestion and Navigation Features

The first feature is called Ask Maps that can give recommendations to users who inquire information like cafes or restaurants with short queues/lines, or detailed itineraries for trips including stops and visits.

Ask Maps will utilize a database of more than 300 million places and reviews from 500 million contributors collected since Maps first released more than 20 years ago. The Ask Maps feature will be available on mobile phones in the United States and India, before expanding to personal computers and other countries.

The second feature is called Immersive Navigation. It will provide a three-dimensional perspective designed to give users a better understanding of their location and surroundings at any given moment. The 3D renderings created by Gemini are designed to help drivers determine direction more quickly.
