15 hours ago | Artificial Intelligence

Jakarta, INTI - Banks in the United States (US) are at risk of having their vulnerable data exposed by artificial intelligence (AI). This was directly warned by the country’s Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent and Federal Chairman Jerome Powell.

According to them, the threat of this attack is posed by Anthropic's latest AI model, Mythos. The model is reportedly very powerful and can identify unknown vulnerabilities. Anthropic recently launched Mythos. However, due to these issues, the company delayed its wider rollout.

Anthropic’s Meeting with The Government and Banks

A Bloomberg News report stated that the AI model can identify and exploit vulnerabilities in every major system and web browser. Anthropic is also taking several steps to prevent this problem from escalating by meeting with US officials last week. The meeting discussed the offensive and defensive cyber capabilities of Mythos.

Meanwhile, another source reported that Anthropic had previously briefed senior US officials and industry stakeholders on Mythos' capabilities before its launch.

A meeting with the US Treasury Department was also held last week to ensure banks were aware of the risks they face. The US government also urged the banks to take steps to protect their systems.

The heads of Citigroup, Morgan Stanley, Bank of America, Wells Fargo, and Goldman Sachs are reportedly in attendance. Meanwhile, Jamie Dimon, CEO of JPMorgan, reportedly did not attend.

Anthropic is also reportedly limiting access to Mythos to only 40 technology companies. Some of its users include Microsoft and Google.

Conclusion

US officials, including Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent and Federal Chairman Jerome Powell, have warned that Anthropic's latest AI model, Mythos, has the potential to uncover and exploit security vulnerabilities in the banking system. Due to its powerful capabilities, its widespread rollout has been delayed. Anthropic is also reportedly limiting access to Mythos to only 40 technology companies.
