Jakarta, INTI - Anthropic officially announced Claude Science last week. Claude Science is specifically designed to assist scientific activities and research, particularly in computational biology and drug development.
Claude Science is positioned as one of Anthropic's flagship products, along with Claude Code for programming and Claude Cowork for general work management. The difference is that Claude Science is focused on supporting scientists' work in laboratories and computationally-based research.
Anthropic's Head of Life Sciences, Eric Kauderer-Abrams, said the launch of Claude Science demonstrates that the company views scientific research as a focus for AI development.
"Our mission is to develop AI that serves humanity's long-term well-being, and we believe that by far the greatest opportunity to do that is in the life sciences," said Kauderer-Abrams in a statement.
Claude Science can Work Autonomously
Anthropic stated that Claude Science is designed as an AI agent, enabling it to carry out various research tasks autonomously when given concise, high-level instructions by the user.
Claude Science is said to be capable of writing and running code on powerful computer clusters, finding sources of any figure or result for accuracy and validity, and assisting with genetics, chemistry, and protein biology analysis and research, among others.
Specifically, the reproducibility of results is considered crucial because it allows researchers to trace the origin of each graph, data, and analysis result. This allows AI research results to be more easily verified for accuracy.
While it can be used for various research fields, Claude Science is focused on molecular biology and drug development. In its demonstration, Anthropic demonstrated Claude Science's autonomous ability to identify new drug candidates for phenylketonuria, a rare genetic disease.
Meanwhile, Anthropic stated that Claude Science is now available to all paying Claude subscribers.
