Jakarta, INTI - The utilization of Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology is increasingly pervasive in all sectors of life. Currently, the utilization of this latest technology has become the backbone of global digital transformation.
Therefore, Deputy Minister of Communication and Information Nezar Patria encourages the younger generation to actively utilize AI technology to compete with other countries.
"Digital transformation is a very important keyword. All students are active social media users and are familiar with artificial intelligence, machine learning, cloud computing, and Internet of Things technologies. All of these accelerate the ongoing digital transformation globally and in Indonesia," he explained during a Public Lecture on Digital Transformation Towards Indonesia Emas at STMM Yogyakarta Campus, Tuesday (23/04/2024).
Wamen Nezar Patria stated that there are three main sectors in Indonesia that have implemented digital transformation, namely the financial services, healthcare, and insurance sectors.
"We hope that the rapid digital transformation can occur inclusively, involving everyone," he emphasized.
Wamenkominfo hopes that STMM Yogyakarta students can prepare themselves to welcome Indonesia Emas 2045 by developing their digital skills.
"I believe this is a momentum for us to boost the strength of our young workforce, which will play a crucial role between 2030-2045. If we fail there, we will remain trapped in the middle-income trap," he expressed.
Wamen Nezar Patria acknowledged that there are still digital divide obstacles, such as the uneven distribution of digital economic activities in Indonesia.
"In terms of connectivity, almost 90% of the territory of the Republic of Indonesia is covered by telecommunications networks. However, the concentration of digital economic growth or digital transformation is only in big cities. This remains an extraordinary challenge," he stated.
According to the Ministry of Communication and Information, the digital divide also occurs at the global level. Therefore, Indonesia remains active in global forums and strives to strengthen Global South countries to be equal to Global North countries.
"We must work together with several countries to achieve better digital inclusiveness globally, including in the development of artificial intelligence (AI) technology," he explained.
Wamen Nezar Patria emphasized that the principle of inclusivity has also been advocated by UNESCO in regulating the use of the latest technology, including AI.
"And one of them is the spirit of inclusivity, no one left behind. No country is excluded because this digital transformation is happening on a global scale and will impact everyone," he concluded.
