Jakarta, INTI - Technological advancements have transformed the global digital landscape. Various countries are striving to implement policies and manage radio frequency spectrum in line with agreements made during the World Radiocommunication Conference (WRC) 2023.
Minister of Communication and Information Budi Arie Setiadi stated that discussions among regulators and stakeholders in the Asia Pacific region are necessary to shape the future policies and regulations of radio frequency spectrum and to prepare policy strategies for WRC 2027. "This event provides a unique opportunity for regulators from across the region not only to discuss but also to shape the future policies and regulations of the spectrum," he said during the opening of The 10th APAC Spectrum Management Conference (APSMC) 2024 in Central Jakarta, Tuesday (23/04/2024).
Minister Budi Arie emphasized the importance of comprehensive regulations in line with the increasingly evolving telecommunications technology. He views the APSMC 2024 Forum as an opportunity for collaboration and sharing insights, laying the groundwork for future technology accessibility for all, improving lives, and empowering communities worldwide.
"Our comprehensive agenda includes preparations for satellite and terrestrial network convergence, the groundwork for 6G, and advanced technologies such as WiFi-6E and WiFi-7, High-throughput Satellite NGSO-GSO, and direct-to-device communication," he explained.
The Ministry of Communication and Information states that the Indonesian government has a need for policy development related to Licensing, Auctions, and Determination of Radio Frequency Spectrum Prices.
"In this conference, Indonesia's priority agenda is to exchange views and discuss various challenges and experiences in Spectrum Management," he said.
Minister Budi Arie hopes that the implementation of APSMC 2024 will act as a catalyst for innovation towards better spectrum management, especially with the presence of new technologies such as IMT-2030 (6G) and new satellite technologies.
"Discussions on these two technologies need to be prioritized as they are outcomes of WRC 2023 and are among the main issues to be discussed at WRC 2027," he emphasized.
The Ministry of Communication and Information appreciates the organization of APSMC 2024 as it allows stakeholders to interact and empower each other in managing the vital resource of radio frequency spectrum.
"With a spirit of collaboration, this conference should be utilized as a platform to share best practices in spectrum management among many new wireless technology providers, consultants, regulators, and operators," he stated.
The event was attended by the Secretary-General of the Asia-Pacific Telecommunity (APT) Masanori Kondo, Chair of APG-23 Kyu-Jin Wee, and the Rector of Telkom University Adiwijaya, as well as the Chairman of the Indonesian Telematics Society Sarwoto Atmosutarno.
Meanwhile, Minister of Communication and Information Budi Arie Setiadi was accompanied by the Director-General of Resources and Devices for Post and Informatics Ismail.
