Jakarta, INTI - In a significant move towards realizing the Indonesia Emas 2045 Vision, the Indonesian government is taking strategic steps to strengthen the nation’s role on the global stage by accelerating the process of joining the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD). This accession will fine-tune Indonesia's strategies, policies, and regulations to support structural transformation and the achievement of the ambitious 2045 goal.
Given the complexity of the accession process, which involves a wide range of stakeholders, the government has established a National OECD Team chaired by Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs, Airlangga Hartarto. The team, formed under Presidential Decree No. 17 of 2024, consists of representatives from 64 ministries, agencies, and institutions, including both government and non-governmental entities. These bodies will work closely with 26 OECD committees and follow 243 OECD instruments and standards that Indonesia needs to align with.
"The government expects that this OECD accession will be a catalyst for development, improvements in governance, and, equally important, 'total football' diplomacy. This means diplomacy across all ministries and agencies," said Minister Airlangga during the National OECD Coordination Meeting and the Launch of Indonesia's OECD Accession Portal, held at the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs office on Thursday (October 3).
The National OECD Team is currently working on the Initial Memorandum, which contains a self-assessment of Indonesia's regulations against OECD standards. This document will serve as a reference throughout the accession process. The team aims to submit the Initial Memorandum by December 2024, accelerating Indonesia's membership process, which is targeted to be completed within three years.
Several ministries and agencies have already demonstrated their commitment by forming task forces and developing worksheets to analyze the alignment of OECD legal instruments with Indonesia’s current regulations.
To ensure the accession process is inclusive and transparent, the government officially launched the OECD Accession Portal and Information Access System (INA OECD). This digital platform is designed to streamline the accession process, facilitating collaboration and communication among stakeholders. The INA OECD platform is expected to enhance response times and foster more efficient collaboration among stakeholders, including coordination with the OECD.
All stakeholders will be able to access planning tools, track progress, store digital documents, and manage calendars securely. The system is also open to input from various stakeholders, including academics, the private sector, and civil society.
Minister Airlangga emphasized that the launch of the OECD Accession Portal and INA OECD represents a concrete step toward accelerating reforms in sectors such as the economy, digitalization, and governance. He also highlighted that Indonesia is the first country to use a digital system in the OECD accession process, underlining the nation’s commitment to strengthening international cooperation and expediting reforms in line with OECD standards and recommendations.
"This accession process is complex and multidimensional, involving interconnected stakeholders. The use of a digital platform will enhance collaboration and secure, structured online communication," concluded Minister Airlangga.
