Jakarta, INTI - Danantara Indonesia is targeting the development of at least 15,000 semiconductor talents over the next three to five years to support the growth of Indonesia’s future technology industry.
Chief Technology Officer of Danantara Indonesia, Sigit Puji Santosa, stated that human resource development is the main foundation for building a national semiconductor industry ecosystem.
“Within the next three to five years, we are targeting the development of at least 15,000 semiconductor talents,” Sigit said.
The semiconductor training program is part of a collaboration between Danantara and Arm Ltd., involving the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology of Indonesia and supported by the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs of Indonesia.
The first phase of the training program involved around 1,000 participants selected from more than 4,500 applicants through digital recruitment channels.
Talent Development Becomes the First Step
Sigit stated that the participants are expected to become pioneers in the development of Indonesia’s semiconductor technology industry amid rising demand for technology-based industries.
“All of you are pioneers entering a new era of technology,” Sigit said.
According to him, Danantara positions the semiconductor industry as one of the key foundations of Indonesia’s future industries, in line with the direction of President Prabowo Subianto.
“Semiconductors will become one of the key pillars of Indonesia’s future industries,” he stated.
Danantara has also begun preparing several future industries driven by semiconductor technology, including AI-based automotive systems, internet of things (IoT) chip design, utilities, and various other technology applications.
Sigit explained that the development of the semiconductor industry is being carried out through an ecosystem-based approach, starting with talent strengthening and collaboration with global industry players.
“We are building the semiconductor industry ecosystem beginning with talent development,” he explained.
Participants with the best evaluation results will later have opportunities to be recruited by Danantara or state-owned enterprises (SOEs) prepared to become part of Indonesia’s national semiconductor industry.
Global Semiconductor Industry Projected to Reach US$1.5 Trillion
The semiconductor training program is being held from May 20–22, 2026, involving instructors from Arm Ltd., a UK-based technology company specializing in semiconductor chip architecture and processor development.
Airlangga Hartarto stated that the global semiconductor industry is projected to reach US$1.5 trillion by 2030.
The government believes Indonesia holds strong potential in semiconductor industry development, supported by around 190 million productive-age citizens and smartphone penetration that has surpassed 75 percent of the population.
Demand for semiconductors in Indonesia also continues to rise alongside the growth of the automotive and internet of things (IoT) sectors.
Airlangga explained that Indonesia currently has an automotive production capacity of around 2 million vehicles per year, with exports reaching approximately 600,000 units to 70 countries.
According to him, each vehicle requires at least 150 semiconductor chips to support various technological systems inside the vehicle.
“We believe the talents trained by Arm will become the future leaders of Indonesia’s semiconductor industry,” Airlangga concluded.
Conclusion
Danantara Indonesia is accelerating the development of Indonesia’s semiconductor ecosystem by focusing on talent development, global collaboration, and future technology industries. The initiative is expected to strengthen the country’s competitiveness in the global chip industry while supporting the growth of AI, IoT, and advanced manufacturing sectors.
