Cross-Sector Collaboration Strengthens National Cybersecurity

Jakarta, INTI - Cybersecurity has become one of the crucial issues in maintaining national sovereignty. The involvement of all parties is key to developing a cybersecurity posture based on the latest technology.

Minister of Communication and Informatics, Budi Arie Setiadi, has called on the Indonesian Digital Forensic Association (AFDI) to actively develop policies and enhance national cybersecurity.

“Cybersecurity is indeed a crucial issue for us today and will be even more needed in the future amidst Indonesia's digital transformation progress,” he said at the opening of the Indonesian Digital Forensic Association Seminar and National Conference in Central Jakarta on Thursday (18/07/2024).

According to Minister Budi Arie, cross-stakeholder involvement will be able to strengthen national cybersecurity. The cyberattack on the Temporary National Data Center (PDNS) 2 in Surabaya is a very important and valuable lesson, requiring cross-sector collaboration.

“To ensure AFDI is not only active in developing national digital forensic policies. If necessary, AFDI, together with BSSN, Kominfo, and Cyber Polri, can create an Incident Response Team consisting of our digital forensic practitioners and experts. AFDI can be present to at least provide a second opinion or a digital forensic result,” he said.

The Minister of Communication and Informatics considers forensic audits to map the root causes of cyber incidents increasingly important. Moreover, with the involvement of various stakeholders, system improvements can take place more effectively.

“Information exchange and capability among stakeholders are very important, especially to cover any overlooked gaps if only one party conducts the forensic audit,” he said.

The Minister cited the United States, which established a cyber forensics lab with very capable malware analysis and cyber threat disruption capacities. Additionally, Malaysia's Ministry of Digital Cyber Security Unit facilitates various cybersecurity needs, including digital evidence analysis.

According to Minister Budi Arie, the government is focused on mitigation and resilience aspects in cybersecurity.

“We must not fall behind. Mitigation and resilience are crucial because the main focus is ensuring that something in the system can return to proper operation post-cyber incident,” he said.

Minister Budi Arie is optimistic that by strengthening cross-sector collaboration, Indonesia can develop digital forensic science to create a better and safer digital ecosystem in the future.

“We believe digitalization is inevitable, making security and safety aspects very important, especially in the digital economy sector because fraud and any cyber crimes are our new enemies,” he added.

The 2024 AFDI Seminar and National Conference also featured the Head of the National Standardization Agency, Donny Purnomo, and the Chairman of AFDI, Izazi Mubarok.
