Jakarta, INTI - As the Red and White Cabinet under President Prabowo Subianto’s leadership begins its term, significant changes are being made to navigate the increasingly complex economic landscape. Airlangga Hartarto, reappointed as Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs, will play a pivotal role in shaping Indonesia’s economic policies for the next five years. The new cabinet aims to continue the legacy of economic stability while adapting to emerging challenges.
Major Changes in the Ministry of Economic Affairs
The structure of the Ministry for Economic Affairs has undergone substantial changes with the inauguration of the Red and White Cabinet. Ministries that were once under the economic coordination umbrella have been reallocated, while new areas of focus have been added. Airlangga revealed that the Ministry’s responsibilities now include overseeing investment, energy, natural resources, and tourism. This structural shift reflects the administration's vision to prioritize sustainable development, diversification, and innovation in the Indonesian economy.
In a meeting with top officials at the Ministry’s headquarters after the inauguration, Airlangga emphasized the need for swift internal adjustments to meet these new expectations. He highlighted the importance of effective coordination between various sectors to ensure the smooth implementation of policies. “We will carry out internal adjustments so that these changes can proceed smoothly,” he stated, stressing the urgency of the task at hand.
Economic Commitment and Strategic Goals
Airlangga remains steadfast in his commitment to fostering economic growth, as outlined by President Prabowo. The new administration's economic agenda is ambitious, aiming not only for growth but also for inclusivity. Key targets include reducing the unemployment rate, boosting household income, and addressing economic inequalities. This agenda will be supported by strategic policies that focus on renewable energy expansion, optimized subsidy distribution, and the strengthening of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).
Moreover, Airlangga emphasized the importance of enhancing Indonesia's economic resilience through effective policies in both domestic and international arenas. He pointed out that future economic strategies would involve collaboration with multiple ministries to achieve cohesive and comprehensive policy-making. "We must engage in dialogue on fiscal and trade policies with all relevant ministries, including the Ministry of Finance," said Airlangga, emphasizing the interconnected nature of economic governance.
Preparing for International Forums: G20 and APEC
In the near future, Indonesia will play a significant role in international forums like the G20 and APEC. These platforms are seen as crucial opportunities for Indonesia to showcase its economic potential and strengthen international partnerships. Airlangga underscored the importance of aligning Indonesia's domestic policies with global economic trends, particularly as the country seeks to attract more foreign investment. “Coordinating with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is essential because we need to align our policies with global economic dynamics,” he said.
Optimism for a Strong Economic Future
Airlangga is optimistic that with the newly adjusted structure and updated policies, Indonesia can face global economic challenges with greater confidence. He stressed that the ultimate goal is to build a robust and inclusive economy, one that benefits all levels of society. "We need to work closely with all ministries to ensure that the policies we implement bring maximum benefits," he concluded, signaling a collaborative approach to governance.
The new economic framework under the Red and White Cabinet highlights the government's intention to balance domestic economic stability with active participation on the global stage. Airlangga’s leadership is seen as a key factor in ensuring that Indonesia navigates the complexities of the current economic climate effectively.
